A new carburetor is on the top five list of new parts for the bike. Apparently I should look for a Mikuni VM32SS since that was the original one.

The Gas Tank!

The gas tank is finally ready and I'm very happy with the result.

Back on track

My project have been put on ice for a while but now I'm back on track again. I have ordered, and received, new decals from a swedish company called dekaltrim. They have done an excellent job making new decals from my pictures of the original 1979 yz 125. Thank you! Soon the plastic will be in shape so the decals can be attached.

Parts is on the way!

A week ago i ordered a new seat cover and rear and front fenders. $ 205 in total, which I think was a bargain! When start working on the seat this identification stamp came through - 1W1. Then obviously the seat is from a yz 125 D 125 1977. Still I have not found out the right identification of the number on the frame, 2Y5-001471.

Identification

Finding out the exact identification of this bike has not been an easy task. Frame serial no. is 2y5-001471 but I've not find any matching referens to that number. All help is welcome! The tank has a stamp wich I suppose is the manufacturing date, or at least year and month.

If my interpretation is right it means that this motorcycel is thirty years old this month. Yeeeha!

The footpegs after a serious facelift. Dirt and rust have been removed before painted. Currently I´m working on the tank. Pictures will be provided soon.

To kill poetry!

Whatching the decay this bike have been through there is no reason to question the quality of this machine - still working despite all the dirt, rust, moist and grease! Today I'm home from work taking care of our son (stomach trouble) and by mail I just now received a owners manual (yz 100-490 monoshock 1976-1984) from the Motor Bookstore (link below). Time to read.

Sunday surprise

Last sunday, we took a trip to Varpet, the cottage outside Munkedal, Sweden, were I have my bike. This was the first time in three weeks any job actually were done on the bike, but I have been busy trying to find all written material on the yz 125 1979 as well as tracking down spareparts. Regarding spareparts, I must recommend a visit to Reproduction decals (see link below), from whom I've received quick and excellent service! The surprice then...finding out that the bike have been running (for how long?) without transmission oil.

This is it! Dirty and worn, but I still belive there's life beneath the "hood". Well actually, I know so, because we did a test drive just the other day. At this point it's not much I can tell you about it. I bought it for 1000 swedish kronor, about 105 euro or 155 US dollar. Previous owner lived in Götene (sweden) but he was Dutch and brought it with him when moving to Sweden. Taking it apart might learn me more about the history an performence of this machine. I have seen a stamp in the fuel tank that it was made late autum in 1978 and I guess they built all their bikes in Japan by that time. If anybody know what to look for in order to tracy modell, year or identification of any kind please let me know. Thanks!
